Windansea Beach

Located south of the La Jolla Tide Pools, this is where the locals hang. Windansea Beach draws lots of attention due to the natural surf breaks that are created by the underwater reefs. Ideal for surfing, there is also a section for those who prefer to sunbathe and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

La Jolla Shores

La Jolla Shores is a sandy beach popular for kayaking and scuba diving. While surfing is allowed, the waves tend to be more gentle than other beaches in the area, making for a great spot for beginners to learn the basics.

Fire pits as well as grills are setup along the beach. There’s even a grass area perfect for setting up a picnic.

Tourmaline Surfing Park

Bordering Pacific Beach and La Jolla, Tourmaline Surfing Park is a favorite among local surfers, kiteboarders, and windsurfers. More specifically, a popular spot for longboard surfing. Known for smaller rolling waves, this is great for beginner surfers. Swimming is not permitted in most parts of the park, however sunbathers enjoy watching the surfers in the water.

Moonlight State Beach

Moonlight State Beach is a popular hot spot in Encinitas. The beach is both swim and surf friendly complete with lifeguards, fire pits, restrooms, showers to rinse off at and a snack bar to enjoy refreshments.

Tamarack State Beach

An active beach, Tamarack State Beach is the ideal hangout spot offering surfing, swimming, fishing, scuba diving, windsurfing, kayaking, and beachcombing. Public restrooms, outdoor showers, and a picnic area are available for use during the day. At dusk, the Seawall separating the beach from the highway is a popular spot to watch the sunset each night.
